Born from a family passion

Sergio Loro Piana’s and Pier Luigi Loro Piana’s passion for the equestrian world went on to become a lifestyle principle for the Maison – igniting a fascination with the composed sophistication and enlivening sense of competition of horse-riding as well as the mode of thinking that comes with it. For Sergio Loro Piana, an avid rider himself, used to say, ‘Horseback-riding is a school of life, teaching respect for the animal, perseverance, and discipline.’

A legacy in horse-riding

The Maison forged its first formal ties with the horse-riding world in 1985, when the Loro Piana Jumping Team was set up to compete in the disciplines of show-jumping and dressage. The House came to work closely with the Italian Federation of Equestrian Sports and the Italian Show Jumping Team, cementing its commitment to elegance and excellence in sports. Over the years, Loro Piana has sought additional ways of connecting and contributing to the sport, notably through its repeat sponsorship of the Concours de Saut International Officiel Piazza di Siena.

The Horsey® jacket, a refined riding essential

The Maison’s very first outerwear Icon, the Horsey® is imbued with a timeless horse-riding spirit. Steeped in heritage, it was originally created as a refined garment for the Italian Equestrian Team for the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992. Adjustable and adaptable, the Horsey® is designed for effortless movement, flexibility, and ease, complete with a notched zip flap that allows the jacket to fold perfectly whilst sitting. Its fabric is purposefully crafted from soft, rustle-free fibres to forgo unwanted noise and emphasise the natural relationship between horse and rider – based on intuition, subtle gestures, and mutual trust.

An equestrian uniform

The House equips its riders in an exclusive official uniform, fusing timeless elegance, unique savoir-faire, and effortless performance. The look included a combination of recognisable Loro Piana creations and novelties, notably a new take on the signature Spagna jacket – rendered in blue and white – and the Jodpurs trousers, modelled on classic riding gear. For time spent in leisure, the talents were dressed in the iconic Horsey® jacket, the Loro Piana Bomber, and the Traveller jacket. The garments were crafted with supreme functionality and ease at their core, reinforcing the intuitive dialogue between horse and rider.
